The governing body of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has decided to withdraw the charge sheet issued to the head of one of its departments.
Dr Kartar Singh, head of department of gastroenterology, was issued a charge sheet by the governing body in January 2011 in the wake of complaints of corruption, financial and administrative irregularities against him during his stint as director of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow. He was on deputation in SGPGI from August 2003 to August 2006.
Dr Singh refuted the allegations, claiming that he was victimised by the PGIMER administration as he had remained at loggerheads with the latter.
Dr Singh had moved the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), maintaining that he had been issued charge sheet in order to keep him out of the race for PGI director's post. Dr Singh was one of the strong contenders for the post. So, the PGIMER governing body left the matter subject to CAT decision.
After the CAT decision in favour of Dr Singh, the governing body in its meeting on April 28 decided to withdraw the charge sheet against Dr Kartar Singh. "The governing body has decided to withdraw the charge sheet against Dr Kartar Singh as per the orders of the CAT and has conveyed the same to the Uttar Pradesh government," it said.
