Pilgrimage to Kedarnath and Hemkunt Sahib will remain suspended at least till July 22 following heavy rain warning and blocked roads.

“The pilgrimage may remain suspended depending on the weather forecast,” said Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat. “The district administration can take that decision.”

Meanwhile, more than 6,000 people, including locals, government employees, workers and pilgrims, are stuck on different routes of the pilgrimage in the Garhwal region. They are trapped mainly on Badrinath, Kedarnath and Hemkunt Sahib routes.

A worried administration is trying to take them to safe locations and makeshift shelters. More than 5,000 people are stuck on the Badrinath route while nearly 1,600 are trapped on the Kedarnath and Hemkunt Sahib pilgrimage routes.

These include 408 pilgrims as well. Nearly 300 pilgrims are stuck up on the Hemkunt Sahib route and another 100 on Badrinath route.

Among the stranded locals, 4,000 are on the Badrinath route and 60 on Kedarnath and nearly 500 people, including 300 members of the gurdwara management committee, are stranded on Hemkunt Sahib route.

In addition, 450 members of Baba Ramdev’s groups are also trying to come down from Gangotri to Hardwar.

They were expected to come by evening but were yet to reach due to bad weather.
