Taking up a petition seeking the removal of Harminder Singh Bains from the post of registrar of Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar, the Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notices of motion to the PTU vice-chancellor, Bains and Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Sangrur.
The petitioner, filed by JK Anand, president of the Anti-Corruption Society, Jalandhar, came up for hearing before the court headed by justice Ritu Bahri on Wednesday.
Anand had alleged that Bains was a usurper of the registrar's post as he was appointed through deputation from SLIET and after various extensions, the SLIET finally declined him extension beyond February 22 last year and asked the PTU vice-chancellor to relieve him. But the V-C chose not to relieve Bains, the petitioner alleged.
It was submitted that SLIET then issued a chargesheet to Bains for his misconduct in disobeying the orders to join back. As per the petitioner's allegations, the PTU vice-chancellor was misutilising Bains' services for making illegal appointments in the university.
