When Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes visiting on Sunday, a family in Sector-7 here expects a surprise, special visit by the top dignitary in the country.

Their house played host to Modi for years when he was in-charge of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh from 1992-1999 and stayed in the town.

The house, 481-P, which is owned by Raj Kishore, treasurer of Chandigarh BJP unit, was provided to him during his stint and the family which goes by the name of Prajapatis are waiting for the PM. “He has a habit of surprising people. We are expecting a visit from him,” said Sharda, sister-in-law of Raj Kishore, who had an association with Modi during those times.

The family hails from Rajasthan and is into bhujia, namkeen and snacks business. It has two houses in Sector 7 located close to each other and they had offered the house to Modi. The house has a big hall in the front with a bed-room at back. Modi used to use the hall as an office and to meet people. “Modiji used to have food with us only. My son’s name Deepam was given by him,” says Raj Kishore.

The family had also visited Modi after he took charge as the prime minister on raksha bandhan.

“He rose to the post of chief minister of Gujarat soon after leaving Haryana. He once told us not to
sell the house as it was lucky for him,” says Sharda.

The family remembers certain instances of his stay that though bad then, brings them the satisfaction of being familiar with the VVIP. In 1995, there was a theft in the house where Modi was living.

“I still remember that a forensic team had come here. His TV was stolen and never traced,” said Raj Kishore.
