PM to lay foundation stone of cancer hospital today at Mullanpur

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday held review talks for the treatment of cancer in the state with the Mumbai-based Tata Memorial Centre's (TMC) director Dr RA Badwe a day ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to lay the foundation stone of another such cancer hospital at Mullanpur near here.


Badal assured the TMC director that the state government would provide all possible help to them for the upcoming hospital - Homi Bhabha Cancer Treatment and Research Centre at Mullanpur.

The chief minister reviewed the state's ongoing joint projects with the TMC director in the state, saying the state would soon emerge as a hub of cancer treatment in the country due to such projects.

Badal also apprised the team of the key steps initiated by the state government to provide early diagnostic and treatment facilities to the cancer patients in the state.

The chief minister also apprised the team of the state's efforts to upgrade the infrastructure for cancer treatment in government medical colleges of Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala.

He also asked Dr Badwe to impart training to the medical and para-medical staff in these hospitals and colleges at the TMC.

Badal said the 100-bed advance cancer hospital at Bathinda would soon become operational, seeking Dr Badwe's support to provide ultra-modern machinery to the centre.

Likewise, the latest cancer diagnostic and treatment centre has been established at the Faridkot medical college and hospital, which has been equipped with ultra-modern machinery.
