Police detain student found trying to board Rajasthan Royal’s bus

A BA second year student of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, was on Thursday detained by the local police after he was found trying to board the bus of Rajasthan Royals’ team at Hotel Taj, Sector 17.

Police said the student, Saiturah Mere, who hailed from Afghanistan, practiced cricket at Sector-16 cricket stadium and was residing in the city for more than two years.

They said Mere claimed that he was invited on the bus by one of the players of the team to see their practice at the nets. But as soon as the Chandigarh Police cops noticed him approaching the bus, they stopped him from entering the vehicle.

Mere was detained for some time and handed over to Sector-17 police station staff, who after noting down his details, let him off, as nothing incriminating was found against the student.

A senior police of ficer, on condition of anonymity, said, “Our priority is to keep the team secure. Therefore, we cannot allow any stranger without proper permission to be a part of the players’ convoy. Therefore, the student was not allowed to board the bus.”
