The Kurukshetra police have given a clean chit to state finance minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha in connection with a woman's allegation that he touched her indecently.
In her complaint filed to Kurukshetra police on July 16, the complaint had charged Chattha with molesting her at his Chandigarh house in November 2012 on the pretext of appointing her the chairperson of Pehowa municipal committee.
She had also alleged that on July 15, when the Congress party observer G Rudra Raju reached Pehowa in Kurukshetra to get the feedback and forms from the ticket aspirants, Chattha had allegedly touched her cheeks in an indecent manner.
The complainant is a municipal councillor from Pehowa, the home constituency of Chattha. The investigation officer and the deputy superintendent of police, Kurukshetra, Nupur Bishnoi, told HT on Tuesday that after a thorough investigation they reached a conclusion that there was no truth in the allegations.
"The complainant had produced three witnesses but their narratives were different and they failed to corroborate the charges of indecency. Thus no case was made out of the complaint," said Bishnoi, while adding that she had submitted the report to the superintendent of police.
On another charge made in the complaint, Bishnoi said that no action could be taken in the alleged case of molestation as the alleged crime took place in Chandigarh and it was beyond the jurisdiction of the Haryana police.
Meanwhile, the complainant has threatened to approach the Punjab and Haryana high court against Chattha and the police authorities. "Police have given a clean chit to Chattha under political pressure. By terming my allegations baseless, the police have tried to defame me by hinting that I did it with ulterior motives. I am shocked and will take legal remedy and lodge my complaint with the Prime Minister," the alleged victim told HT over phone on Tuesday.
