In a written complaint to superintendent of police (SP), Shyam Lal, a resident of Sarahan village here, has accused the police of abusing, harassing and illegally beating him on September 7.

Demanding a probe into the case, Lal said he belonged to the schedule caste family and the police, who pointed out at his caste and abused him, should be punished. The complainant said a case under provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act should be lodged against the police officials.

Elaborating the incident, he said the police dragged him to the police station, where he was allegedly put behind the bars. He added that during the illegal detention he was beaten mercilessly, resulting in injuries.

The complainant has also accused the police for forcibly pouring liquor into his mouth, before his medical examination.
