In a case of mistaken identity, the Mataur police caught hold of a wrong man outside the SAS Nagar local courts on Thursday, suspecting him to be a drug smuggler.

The purported victim Vivek Sharma had actually come to visit one of his relatives whose trial was on at the courts.

What makes the case even more intriguing is the fact that when the policemen posted outside the courts challenged the purported kidnappers, instead of showing their credentials, they preferred to flee.

Later, SHO Mataur NPS Lehal confirmed that there had been a mix-up and no case was registered by the victim Vivek after the police explained the case to him.

The victim Vivek sustained minor injuries, when he resisted. The area police rushed him to the civil hospital.
