Top brass of the state police administration is working overtime for the past two days to make the mega rally of the ruling Congress party at Panipat a big success on Sunday.

Led by the director general of police (DGP) SN Vashisht, several police officials are camping in Panipat to look after management of the political function.

According to sources, more than 15 IPS officers from various districts and the police headquarters at Panchkula have been put on duty.

DGP (CID) AK Dhull reached Panipat on Saturday afternoon to take stock of the arrangements as the sleuths from the state intelligence are in the town.

At least three heads of police ranges are camping in Panipat and several officials from the Haryana Police Academy (HPA), Madhuban (Karnal), have been deputed to look after police arrangements.

Sources said besides IAS and HCS officers, several executive magistrates and gazetted officers are on duty at the venue. These officers, roped in from various departments like health, PWD (B&R), public relations and transport are now busy reviewing arrangements at the venue.

Sources said similar unprecedented heavy police bandobast was made at the Congress' rally at Gohana (Sonepat) in November.
