The final results of counting of votes for elections to 25 posts of the apex legal organisation of the region, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, were declared on Monday.
Those who were sitting members and were re-elected are Anmol Rattan Singh Sidhu (president of Punjab and Haryana high court bar association), Minderjeet Yadav (chairman of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana), Harpreet Singh Brar, Partap Singh, Bhupinder Singh Rathore, Chander Mohan Munjal, Lekh Raj Sharma, Vijender Singh Ahlawat, Gurinder Pal Singh, Pravesh Yadav, Raj Mohan Singh, Rakesh Gupta, OP Sharma, Rajeev Kaswan, Harpreet Singh Garcha, Sukhdeep Singh Bhinder and Jai Vir Yadav.
The eight newly-elected members are Karanjit Singh, Ashok Singla, Joginder Kumar Maheshwari, Randhir Singh Badhran, Amit Rana, Parupkar Singh Ghuman, Narinder Kumar Singla and Rajat Gautam.
Polling to the legal body with 58,696 advocates spread over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh was held in two phases on May 31 (Chandigarh) and June 1 (Punjab and Haryana). Counting of votes started on June 5 in the Punjab and Haryana high court.
Now, the Bar Council would first issue the notification regarding the results of the 25 elected members, after which the process of selection of chairman and office-bearers would start and may take more than a week's time.
There are 25 elected members of the Bar Council and two ex-officio members who are advocate generals of Punjab and Haryana, Ashok Aggarwal and Hawa Singh Hooda, respectively.
