Gurdaspur superintendent of police Baljit Singh was one amongst four officers who died while defending their country in a shamming terrorist attack that caught the state and country off-guard, fighting relentlessly 11 hours.

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Centre on a PIL seeking directions to issue the honorific of "martyr" or "shaheed" to paramilitary or police personnel who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.

Jurists and ministries are in the process of issuing a reply within the next two weeks.
