Polling for MC election ends in Haryana

The polling began today for the election of the councilors of seven Municipal Corporations of Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal, Panipat, Hisar, Rohtak and Yamunanagar in Haryana and two Municipal Committees, Farukh Nagar (Gurgaon) and Kalanaur (Rohtak).

The polling began today for the election of the councilors of seven Municipal Corporations of Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal, Panipat, Hisar, Rohtak and Yamunanagar in Haryana and two Municipal Committees, Farukh Nagar (Gurgaon) and Kalanaur (Rohtak).


Haryana State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir said that as per election schedule, the counting of votes in the case of Municipal Committees would be conducted immediately after the poll and in the case of Municipal Corporations, the counting would be conducted on June 4.

He said that in all, 1,686 candidates were contesting elections for 144 wards of seven corporations. There were about 17.08 lakh electorate in these corporations. For conducting elections, 1,686 polling stations had been set
up in 782 buildings.

About nine thousand officials would be deployed to conduct these elections, he added.

Vir said that elaborate arrangements for the conduct of the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner and to maintain the law and order had been made.

The Commission had ensured deployment of police force to maintain law and order at the polling stations and sensitive areas. He said that out of 1,686 polling stations, 251 had been declared sensitive and 335 hyper-sensitive. There would be substantial police force at all the sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations, he added.
