Strong resentment prevails among residents of Sector 45 over bad condition of roads in the area. They alleged that a new park had come up in the area opposite motor market, but the condition of the road leading to it is pathetic.

Area resident Deepak Verma said, “We have written to the authorities concerned several times, but nothing has been done so far. During rainy days these potholes are full of mud and so many times rickshaws and even cars have got stuck in them. Due to the motor market area, vehicles are parked by the side of the road for repairing, thus causing obstruction to movement of traffic. This is the only road connecting Sector 45 to 44 and other southern sectors, and it is now impossible to cross it.”

Last month, members of the Residents' Welfare Association, Sector 45, submitted a memorandum to Chandigarh municipal corporation chief engineer Mukesh Anand alleging that their area was totally neglected in terms of basic amenities.

“Major problems in the area include bad condition of roads, ill-maintained parks, non-functional streetlights, garbage and sanitation problems. We are facing all these problems from the past three years, but despite giving several reminders to the civic body, nothing has been done so far,” Verma added.

However, when contacted, chief engineer Mukesh Anand admitted that roads were really in a bad shape. “We are preparing estimates for roads and hopefully tenders will be floated soon.”
