To cope up with the acute power shortage in the state, the Punjab government on Sunday announced significant change in office timings, that is, from 8 am to 2 pm, and also imposed a complete ban on air conditioners in all government offices from August 1.
Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has also asked the chief secretary to issue detailed instructions to the district administrations as well in this regard for ensuring necessary steps to curtail the power consumption in this hour of crisis, a spokesperson here said.
All the districts heads of the offices would be solely responsible for ensuring strict compliance of these instructions that would also be applicable to the camp offices of all divisional as well as district level administrative and police officers, the spokesperson said.
Steps were also being taken to supply potable water in towns and cities facing severe water shortage in absence of power supply. The supply of safe drinking water would be ensured at the door steps of the residents, he added.
The SDMs have been made responsible to ensure smooth supply of safe drinking water through tankers in the localities within their jurisdiction.
