Irate residents of four villages of Sonepat district on Saturday locked a power sub-station and laid a blockade on the Gannaur-Gohana road for more than five hours.

They were protesting against the shortage of power supply in Khubru, Sardhana, Bala and Tewri villages for the past seven days. A protester said, "We have been requesting to the authorities to supply power either during the day or night, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears."

"The protest escalated to a traffic blockade when officials of the sub-station abused and misbehaved with us," a villager alleged. The Sonepat police reached the spot to disperse the protesters, but they were adamant that blockade would be lifted when officials from the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitan Nigam (DHBVN) visit them and listen to their complaints.

The matter was resolved after sub-divisional office (SDO) Bhim Matur reached the spot and assured them of addressing their woes. The villagers demanded action against officials of the power sub station, who allegedly misbehaved with them. Matur assured them of transferring the official, if found guilty during a departmental inquiry.
