The leaders of the People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) have taken a unanimous decision to dissolve their present organisational structure and rejuvenate the party from the grassroots level for the next assembly elections in 2017.

On Sunday, PPP president Manpreet Singh Badal, other members of the central committee, and district presidents decided to reconstitute the party in another 15 days. “We need to do it without losing any more time,” said Manpreet.

He was under criticism for running the party in an arbitrary manner and not consulting the other PPP leaders in important matters.

His decision to contest the Lok Sabha election in Bathinda had also been opposed.

Manpreet created the PPP before the 2012 assembly polls after he resigned as state finance minister.

The PPP rallies and public meetings received a tremendous response but the party failed to win any assembly seat.

“The party now will hold meetings in all districts to raise the concerns of the state and its people,” said Manpreet, thanking the workers of the People’s Party of Puunjab, Congress, and Communist Party of India for supporting him in the last parliamentary battle.
