Nishant Sharma, who had hit the headlines for attacking militant Jagtar Singh Hawara outside the courts complex in November 2011, has again landed in controversy.
On Tuesday evening, he alleged that former UT SP (city) Deshraj Singh, who is behind bars in a corruption case, roughed him up following an argument between them on the premises of the Burail jail.
However, the jail authorities have rejected the claims of Sharma. UT DIG Alok Kumar said, "Sharma did have a fight with a co-prisoner, but Deshraj has nothing to do with the incident."
In fact, Sharma came to the hospital with photocopies of the detailed complaint against Deshraj Singh.
The DIG has marked an inquiry as to how a prisoner lodged in the jail was able to get the photocopies of his complaint when there is no such facility on the jail premises.
The DIG said, "We are looking into the details that who was instrumental in getting the photocopies of the prisoner's complaint. An inquiry has been initiated to check the reason behind the entire drama."
A senior jail official said, "There is 100% connivance of the staff that escorted Sharma to the hospital for getting the photocopies of his complaint."
Sharma, who was brought to GMCH-32, alleged that Deshraj, Suresh Kumar, who is accused of triple murder, along with another person had manhandled him after interrupting his prayer session.
In a formal complaint to the police, Sharma also claimed that he was being threatened by former IPS Deshraj Singh. The jail authorities, however, claimed that Sharma had a scuffle with co-prisoner Suresh Kumar, but was falsely implicating Deshraj Singh.
As visibly bruised Sharma was escorted by the jail staff to the hospital, blue patches due to clotting of the blood were visible on his face. His hand was wrapped in a bandage. The police cordoned off the area and the media was restrained from entering the emergency.
