Justice Surya Kant of Punjab and Haryana high court inaugurated the prisoner information management system (PIMS) and visitors information management system (VIMS) at district jail, Rupnagar, on Sunday.
PIMS is a software that provides a centralised approach for recording and managing all relevant information regarding prisoners. It also generates different kinds of reports.
VIMS is a web-based solution for visitor management in the jail. The visitor management module assists in capturing all relevant information about the visitor and it automatically saves it in database. These systems are the modules of online portal e-prisons project.
The PIMS and VIMS systems have been launched with the funds amounting to Rs 7.5 lakh made available by the Rupnagar deputy commissioner Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal.
Justice Surya Kant showed keen interest in the systems and lauded the efforts of district administration in starting the systems in the jail. He said the systems would prove to be extremely beneficial for the jail and police administration. Justice Kant also met the jail inmates and listened to their problems.
Rupnagar district and sessions judge Amarjot Bhatti, chief judicial magistrates Rajwinder Singh and Gopal Arora, Rupnagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Toor, additional deputy commissioner Amarjit Singh Shahi, jail superintendent Paramjit Singh Sandhu and deputy jail superintendent Rajiv Arora were also present on the occasion.
