The city police arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) of a hit-and-run case at SAS Nagar on Monday. The accused was identified as Karanveer Singh alias Honey, resident of Rajpura in Patiala.

According to the police, Karanveer was declared a PO in-connection with a 2012 hit-and-run case.

A PO is a person who has absconded so that the warrant issued against him/her cannot be executed.

On 22 April, 2012, the car driven by the accused rammed into another car, following which a 30-year-old person, who was the occupant of that car, died at the spot.

The deceased was identified as Naveen Kumar Behal.

However, Karanveer managed to flee from the spot.At that time, the police had registered a case against unidentified persons under Section 304A (death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police identified the accused after conducting investigations and arrested him on Monday.

The police said the accused, after procuring bail from a local court, had failed to appear for the court hearing, following which he was declared PO.
