Property dealer shot dead in Karnal

A 35-year-old property dealer was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) officer here on Thursday afternoon.

Though the crime spot is located a few meters away from the mini secretariat, the criminals managed to flee before the police, deployed around the district headquarter complex, could react.

The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar, a resident of Ram Nagar locality of the town. Kumar was attacked by the two motorcycle-borne people, who fired several rounds at him from a close range.

An eyewitness said three bullets were pumped into the deceased, who was alone and died on the spot.
Meanwhiel, superintendent of police Abhishek Garg said some property dispute seemed to be a reason behind the crime.

"The deceased was a photocopying vendor at a local tehsil office and was also dealing in the real estate business. His family members have also stated some property dispute, but no exact name has cropped up so far. We are taking help of cyber experts, CCTV footages from the area around the crime spot for any breakthrough," said the SP.

However, few people present on the spot tried to chase the assailants, but were unsuccessful. Alert on being followed, they threatened to fire at the chasers and moved towards the busy Model Town area.
