Police have registered a case against the protestors who had blocked traffic on the Nurpur Bedi-Garhshaker road on Sunday. They were protesting against the poor condition of roads and rampant illegal-mining activities going on in the area.

The case has been registered under Sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 149 (police to prevent cognisable offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Mohan Singh Dhamama, Gurnaib Singh Jaitewal, Dinesh Chadha, Gurvinder Singh Saskaur, Rampal Pali, Jarnail Singh Behniwal, Ashwani Chadha, Sucha Singh Bassi and others at Nurpur Bedi police station.

It may be mentioned that the residents of the Nurpur Bedi area, under the banner of the 'ilaqa' sangharsh committee blocked traffic on the Nurpur Bedi-Garhshanker road on Sunday.
Criticising local member legislative assembly (MLA) and Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema over the issue, protesters had declared that they would oppose him whenever he will come to the town.

Association leader Dinesh Chadha said, "By just registering cases against innocent people, the authorities can't suppress their struggle."
