High drama gripped the ongoing protest of Haryana’s post graduate teachers on Saturday after their protest march towards the Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda’s residence was halted near Fun Republic. The group, which was going towards the CM’s house to submit their memorandum of demands, were stopped by the police from entering Chandigarh.

The teachers, who have been protesting against the Haryana government for over 20 days now, had begun to march towards the CM’s residence raising antigovernment slogans but were intercepted by the police.

A minor scuffle broke out between the two parties, with the teachers even breaking the police cordon, before the latter finally managed to control them. The protesters then sat on a dharna on the road.

Later Shadi Lal Kapoor, the OSD to the CM, reached the spot and scheduled a meeting between the teachers and Hooda.

The teachers, who have been hired by the state government through two private companies, are demanding that they be brought directly under the state government’s education department.

Currently, the state government disburses their salaries to the two companies, which further pay them. The teachers also seek regularisation of their services.
