An 18-year-old girl was allegedly abducted by her cousin, along with three other men, and raped in south Kashmir, triggering protests.
The girl, allegedly abducted on Saturday evening from Shopian district, was found "naked and unconscious" by villagers in the neighboring Kulgam district on Sunday morning.
Police said the girl had named one of her cousins as the accused. "We have launched a manhunt to nab the four suspects," Shopian station house officer Irshad Ahmad said.
The officer added that the girl was produced before a magistrate on Monday where she recorded her statement. "She told the magistrate that she was raped by one of the men," Ahmad said, adding that the report of the medical test to confirm the rape was awaited.
A local newspaper quoted the girl saying that she was kidnapped, drugged and beaten up by four kidnappers at an unknown location.
"I was coming out of the washroom in the compound of my house when suddenly someone sprinkled chilly water into my eyes and then forcibly whisked me away into a vehicle," the paper quoted the victim. "They tore apart my clothes and then I was drugged till I felt unconscious."
The SHO said the uncle of the victim filed a complaint on Saturday late evening. "The family told us that she had left for washroom, which is in the compound of their house, and did not return," Ahmad said.
