PSEB engineers' body oppose state govt's move to raise retirement age

PSEB Engineers' Association opposed the proposed move of the state government to raise the retirement age of its employees from 58 to 60 years.

Punjab State Electricity Board Engineers' Association opposed the proposed move of the state government to raise the retirement age of its employees from 58 to 60 years here on Wednesday.

"The job requirements in the power sector are rigorous in distribution, transmission and generation fields. These require not only physical fitness but also mental alertness and rising retirement age of employees shall be counter- productive," PSEB association spokesman Sanjeev Sood said.

The power sector is also witnessing rapid technological changes and induction of fresh blood is very much essential and desirable to attain the healthy mix of experience and youth, Sood added.

The youth of the state will also be denied employment opportunities in the near future. The association, therefore, demands that retirement age of employees should not be raised, the spokesman said.
