Chairperson of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal on Tuesday suspended five senior officials of the board for not delivering signatures sheets and cut lists (which contains the details of candidates) in some of the examination centres in the state, where re-exams started on Monday.
The suspended included joint secretary Pavitarpal Kaur, deputy secretary Baljeet Kaur Sodhi, assistant secretaries Kiran Bala, Bhupinder Kaur and Manjit Kaur.
The action was taken after complaints were received from the centres at Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka and Ferozepur, stating that the officers did not send signatures sheets and cut lists, for which supervisors had a tough time and even exams were delayed.
Cut lists are important, as the superintendents have to arrange the seating arrangements accordingly.
Soon after the suspension, the members of Punjab School Education Board Union protested against the suspension and locked gates of the board office. Later, the chairperson assured the members that a meeting would be held on Wednesday in this regard.
Speaking to HT, Dhaliwal said, “It was sheer negligence on part of the officers concerned. We have suspended them and even an inquiry has been marked against them. The supervisors and students were harassed at the examination centres on Monday and we will not tolerate this at any cost.”
The board is conducting re-exams in 17 centres, where the exams were cancelled due to cheating.
