Taking up a petition challenging the one-year service extension granted to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chairman and managing director KD Chaudhri, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday issued a notice of motion to the state government, Powercom and Chaudhri for filing their replies.
Taking up a petition by retired engineer Gurnek Singh Brar of Patiala, justice Ritu Bahri issued the notice of motion for March 25. The petitioner has submitted that Chaudhri was granted extension of service illegally by the Punjab government on February 7 when there was no provision for it in the rules.
As Chaudhri was to complete his term on February 9 on attaining the age of 62, the state government extended the retirement age to 65 years on February 7 and granted him extension. For it, the government amended the agreement signed in 2010 with the erstwhile Punjab State Electricity Board and the employee unions during the bifurcation of the board into transmission and distribution entities.
It was submitted that under the "Article of Association", the selection procedure was to be initiated within three months of the age of superannuation, a selection committee was to be constituted for the purpose, and there was no provision for extension in tenure.
