Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday slammed the state government for low power generation in the PSPCL thermal plants, terming it a deep-rooted conspiracy to benefit private power generation companies in the state at the cost of consumers.
"The PSPCL was purchasing electricity at exorbitant rates ignoring the terms enlisted in the memorandum of understanding signed with the private players," he stated, highlighting the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission report that was released during the revision of the state's power tariff for the financial year 2015-16.
Jakhar evenstated that the Commission's chairperson Romila Dubey had belied deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's claim on surplus power in the state.
He said she had revealed that PSPCL was buying 3,500 million units of power during paddy season and planned to purchase more power when mercury soars and demand in domestic sector will increase.
He also pointed out that the power in Punjab was dearer to the consumers in Punjab than in the neighbouring and many other states.
