Taking up a petition challenging the revised merit list for filling 88 posts of assistant engineers (electrical) in the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), the Punjab and Haryana high court has issued a notice of motion to the PSTCL for January 15, 2013.
The petition filed by Harmit Singh Aulakh of Patiala came up for hearing before the court of justice Rajesh Bindal on Tuesday. The court directed that the selection would be subject to the petition's outcome.
The petitioner, who was one of the candidates for the post under the general category, informed the bench that the PSTCL first published the merit list on October 31, in which he was shown at serial number 23. However, in the revised merit list, published on November 27, he came down to the 89th position.
The court was informed that when the revised merit list was published, original and revised answer keys were also posted on the PSTCL's website and a comparison of the keys indicated that about 15 questions and answers were wrong.
As per the petitioner, the PSTCL awarded one grace mark for each such question. Also, there were three such questions for which there were different answers in both answer keys.
The petitioner requested the court to set up an experts' committee for inviting representations from all aggrieved candidates and make its recommendations to the PSTCL so that a new and correct merit list should be prepared.
