The department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University (PU), has started a pre-PhD course work programme for college teachers. This will benefit teachers pursuing their PhD research work as they would be able to conduct their pre-PhD course during the summer vacations.
A PU spokesperson said the programme was a first-of-its kind as the college teachers would not have to disturb their duties at their respective working places. The inaugural event was chaired by PU research dean Lalit K Bansal.
In his inaugural speech, Bansal underlined the importance of the course, particularly when PhD was an essential qualification for getting promotion as an associate professor and principal in colleges.
PU fellow and chairperson Jaspal Kaur Kaang suggested that a comprehensive research programme be designed collectively by all departments of Punjabi
Studies in PU such as school of Punjabi studies, department of evening studies, university school of open learning and department of Guru Nanak Sikh studies as the latter was now well-equipped to be the hub of this research programme.
