After all the hustle and bustle of nominations and hectic lobbying, there are finally four key alliances left in the fray for four office bearer posts of Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC). The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has forged an alliance with National Students Organisation (NSO) and Himachal Students Union (HIMSU); Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) has tied-up with with Gandhi Group Student Union (GGSU) and Himachal Pradesh Students Association (HPSA).
Student Organisation of India (SOI), which has emerged as an influential group following top leaders of Student organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) and PUSU joining the party earlier this year, has joined hands with the Hindustan Student Association (HSA) and Youth Welfare Association (YUWA). The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which had won the post of vice-president in the previous election has decided to go it alone and announced its candidates for all posts, apparently for the first time at the varsity.
The new entrant, the Students for Society (SFS), will be fighting for the post of president only.
PUSU is contesting the president’s post and has given secretary’s post to HSA. It is also contesting for vice-president and joint secretary. NSUI was forced to give the post of joint secretary to HIMSU and the secretary’s post to NSO.
The SOI is fighting on presidents’ post and given the post of vice-president to a faction of SOPU; the secretary’s post has been given to the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) and one post to Youth Welfare Association (YUWA). The Student Federation of India has no candidate in the fray as the nominations of two of its candidates were cancelled.

Of the 21 candidates for PUCSC, there are five candidates from different parties from UIET, the department with the largest number of students in the university.
