A Panjab University (PU) employee and his wife have been arrested by police on charges of cheating here on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Surinder Kumar and Veena, both residents of Block C of the university.
Giving details, investigating officer (IO), sub-inspector Baldev Kumar said the accused was working as superintendent at the evening department of the PU.
Baldev Kumar said the couple had duped Satpal, a resident of Village Palsora, of Rs 10 lakh by selling their house in Palsora, which they had already sold to two other persons.
The house is in name of Veena and she along with her husband executed the sale agreement with Satpal and two others.
When the fraud came into light, the complainant approached police. After the investigations, the both the accused were arrested and produced in the court, which remanded Surender to police custody, while Veena was sent to judicial custody.
A case of cheating (section 420) and criminal breach of trust (section 406) and criminal conspiracy (section 120-B) of the IPC has been registered at Sector-39 police station.
