In its initiative to provide internet facility to every student as well as staff, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, on Tuesday launched an online application for the registration of wifi facility on the campus.
The PU has decided to provide this free wifi facility to all the campus students and over 9,000 students are enjoying this facility.
PU dean Student Welfare Navdeep Goyal inaugurated the online application by registering on the internet portal. As per the facility, each student who wants avail the facility would have to fill up the online form and submit the hardcopy to their respective departments. Students who were earlier given this facility for a limited time period, there services will be renewed without filling up the form.
Welcoming the initiative, Goyal said the facility will be very beneficial for the students and chances of error involved will also be reduced. The students will also be given the separate password which they can change according to their choice.
Certain departments like University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Department of Laws, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) and University Business School (UBS) have been given the facility to enable wifi accounts.
The online application has been developed at Computer Centre, Panjab University, by a team of Ajay Guleria, Mamta and Anil Kumar.
PU Computer Centre director Tankeshwar Kumar said the same database could also be used for accessing the internet facility on the wired network as well. He added this was the union government's requirement and the university was expecting funds and manpower for the new initiative.
