Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh and its local affiliated colleges are emerging as a favourite destination for the international students also.
In year 2012-13, nearly 408 students from different countries including Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal took admission at PU and the colleges affiliated to it.
PU spokesperson said the recent trend shows that PU and affiliated colleges in Chandigarh have emerged as a very popular study option among the international students. High quality education, job-oriented courses and favourable study atmosphere is attracting the international students in large numbers to PU and the number of international students has increased to about more than three times in the past three years.
In all, 55 international students are studying in PhD, 34 are doing their post graduate studies and 319 are pursuing graduation from the university. Nearly 124 international students are studying in the PU campus, while 284 are studying in different affiliated colleges of PU in the city.
In order to make a better career and future, the students from 24 countries, including, USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Maldives, Nepal, Nigeria, Qatar, Thailand, Tibet, Yemen, Zimbabwe and Singapore have come to the city to study at PU.
The maximum number of students is from Afghanistan, which is followed by students from Iran, Tibet, Canada, USA, Thailand, Bhutan and Australia.
