Braving ongoing slump in the job market and keeping in mind the recent number one ranking in the country by an international agency, Panjab University (PU) has decided not to allow companies offering salary packages of less than `3 lakh per annum during its central placement drive 'AVSAR' scheduled for next month.
As many as 1,500 students from various university departments have got themselves registered with the central placement cell to participate in the three-day long drive starting on March 6. The number of the students participating in the drive has gone up by nearly 50% this year as compared to last year. To train them, the university would also hold a meet with human resource development personnel of various companies on February 22.
Addressing the media, honorary director S K Chadha said PU would advertise all across the country to invite best of the companies for placement drive. However, as of now he could only confirm participation of six companies and added that 32 of those companies that participated last year were also likely to join. "We have sent out invites to nearly 500 odd companies in the country," he added.
He also said that companies offering less than `3 lakh per annum package in the case of professional courses and PGs and `2.4 lakh in the case of graduate students would not be allowed to participate.
Last year, the cap was `2.4 lakh and `1.8 lakh for the post graduate and professional courses and graduate students, respectively. A website has also been made functional for the drive with all details.
