Dr Ambedkar Centre for Socio-Economic Studies at the Panjab University (PU) on Wednesday organised a lecture 'The Making of Image of Dr Ambedkar in North India' at its campus.
Renowned academician and expert on Dalit Issues, Dr Badri Narayan, professor of social history and cultural anthropology at the GB Pant Social Science Institute, Allahabad, delivered the lecture.
He said that Ambedkar movement gained momentum in late 1960s due to publications small booklets of his ideas and philosophy in regional languages which were widely read by majority of the Dalit population.
Honorary director of ICSSR-NWR Centre, fellow and dean faculty of arts, PU, Ronki Ram chaired the session.
Profesor Narayan also delivered the Professor Pradeep Kumar Memorial Lecture on the topic of 'Kanshi Ram and Dalit Bahujan Politics' on Wednesday. It was organised by PU's political science department.
Professor Narayan, who has authored a biography of Kanshi Ram, said Kanshi Ram was a master in chalking out electoral strategy.
