Panjab University has proposed a fee hike of up to 20% in BA, BCom and BSc courses being run in its 188 affiliated colleges in Chandigarh and Punjab.
“Self-financed courses such as MBA, biotechnology and others have not been touched,” an official said, adding that fee in those courses was already on the higher side.
Those studying BA in Chandigarh will now have to pay Rs 12,000 in instead of Rs 10,000, BCom students will have to pay Rs 18,000 in place of Rs 15, 000 and BSc students’ fee has been revised to Rs 14,000 from Rs 11,200.
Those studying in Punjab will have to pay Rs 14,000 in place of Rs 12,300 for BA, Rs 18,000 instead of Rs 15,000 for BCom and Rs 15,500 in place of Rs 13,500 for those pursuing BSc courses.
For those pursuing postgraduate courses, the fee hike will be Rs 14,000 to Rs 15,500 for students of MA in both Chandigarh and Punjab and for MSc students it will be Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000. In the case of MCom, the increase is of Rs 3000 from Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000.
The proposed fee hike would be put up before coming syndicate meeting scheduled for May 18. “The fee will come into effect for the academic session 201415,” an official said, adding that the fee hike was long overdue and was effected in 2007-08 academic year.
