PU student tries to end her life at Sukhna, saved

A Panjab University (PU) student made an attempt to end her life at Sukhna Lake here on Monday.

According to the police, the 24-year-old woman was an MA sociology student from PU and was reportedly under depression.

She jumped into the lake near stairacase number 1. A passerby saw the woman and raised the alar m, after which she was rescued by two passersby and the police personnel posted at Sukhna Lake police post.

The victim had left home around 1pm and switched off her mobile phone, while the incident took place around 5pm.

Station house officer (SHO) of Sector 3 police station, Harjeet Kaur, said the victim was a Mauli Jagran resident and was upset over some family issues.

Her relatives told the police that she had recently taken her MA sociology examination.
The victim, who was booked under charges of attempt to suicide, is stated to be in a stable condition now.

At least 17 suicides have been reported from the city in the past four months.
