The Panjab University syndicate on Sunday approved the dual degrees for five-years integrated course in Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET) and University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET). The students would now get two certificates at the end of the course.

The syndicate also approved replacement of words 'enrollment and registration' existing in regulations, rules and guidelines for PhD candidates with 'registration' and 'confirmation of registration' so that research scholars of PU should not be disadvantaged because of nomenclature.

Earlier, PU junior research fellows could not be designated senior research fellows after two years of registration for PhD degree as per the UGC/CSIR guidelines due to the nomenclature.
In another decision, the syndicate approved equal chances (four) for improvement to MA pass-outs under the annual system as well as the semester system. Any pass-out from the annual system wanting to improve his/her performance would have to appear in two exams, one each in odd and even semesters. The average of both would be taken as the final score of the candidate.

Discontinuation of MEd course at Dev Samaj College, Sector 36, was also given the nod in the wake of request from management. The building on the college campus where classes were held was allegedly not approved as per the norms.

Also, now those appearing for entrance exam for MBA off the campus would have to attempt a 100-marks question paper. No marks would be given for experience, compared to 20 allotted earlier.
Meanwhile, the syndicate congratulated the School of Communication Studies for winning the 'Leadership Award' for 2012-13 for its outstanding contribution to the field of journalism education at the 7th B-School Awards held in Mumbai.
