Come new academic session and colleges affiliated to Panjab University will have a compulsory module on crime against women for undergraduate courses, for which each student must pass an exam once during their course.

This would be the first time that such a course would be initiated in colleges.

Aimed at making students aware of the new laws on sexual harassment in the light of the increasing crime against women in the country, the course syllabus will be decided by a panel headed by department of laws chairperson Nistha Jaswal.

“We aim to sensitise students on gender issues and basic information on what can be termed as violence against women,” she said, adding women are unaware on whom to approach when they face such crimes.
