Vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover delivered a lecture at the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) - CV Raman Lecture at Panjab University (PU), here on Wednesday. Grover is the first Panjab University alumnus to have been given the honour of delivering the lecture.
The lecture was based on the theme, “SS Bhatnagar, CV Raman, Homi Bhabha and research in physics at Lahore and Chandigarh.” Grover highlighted parts of history related to PU and gave glimpses of the timelines of selected Indian icons-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, Piara Singh Gill, Homi Jehangir Bhabha and CV Raman.
He elaborated the rich heritage and contribution of PU in the scientific research and also discussed the growth of research in science at PU in pre-independence and post-independence era; that is from Lahore to Chandigarh.
The speaker of the lecture is selected by the Indian Physics Association (IPA), Mumbai. The lecture series was initiated in the year 1989 by IPA, with a grant from the department of atomic energy.
The DAE - C V Raman lectures are delivered by distinguished scientists chosen by the executive committee of IPA.
President of the Chandigarh chapter of IPA, Manmohan Gupta, dean university instructions Madhu Raka and a number of senior officers, deans, chairpersons and directors of various faculties, departments, institutes and centres attended the lecture.
