Punjab’s procurement agency Pungrain leads in paddy procurement in the current kharif season. It has so far procured 1.06 lakh tonne of paddy.
Among districts, Tarn Taran leads with 57,026 tonne of paddy procured out of the total 4.74 lakh tonne procured across the state till Thursday. Jalandhar and Faridkot districts procured 51,607 and 47,827 tonne of paddy, respectively.
A spokesperson said the Punjab government agencies procured 3,89,847 tonne (82.2%) of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 84,181 tonne (17.8%).
Pungrain procured 27.4% of the total procurement, Markfed 1 lakh tonne (26%), Punsup procured 84,373 tonne (21.6%), state warehousing corporation 32,564 tonne (8.4%), and the state agro food corporation procured 41,532 tonne (10.7%) of paddy.
The central government agency, FCI, could procure 23,174 tonne (5.9%).
