The Punjab government has decided to give education allowance to the children of the labourers registered under the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board. The education allowance (books and stationery) will be worth Rs 4,000 to 8,000.
The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting of Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, presided over by labour minister Chunni Lal Bhagat. It was also decided that besides the education allowance, children of registered labourers studying in Class 1 to Class 12 would also be given uniform allowance from Rs 800 to Rs 1,000.
Announcing this, Bhagat said the Punjab government had also decided to distribute bicycles to such beneficiary students, studying in classes 9 to 12.
