The Punjab government on Sunday announced a cash award of Rs one crore each to Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh on India's historic World Cup win.
Announcing this, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal also felicitated M S Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and all other members of the team on their outstanding show. "We are all proud of you. This victory is all the sweeter as it came under so much pressure. Special word of congratulations to skipper Mahinder Singh Dhoni for his great innings and for leading the team with courage and aplomb," Sukhbir stated.
The deputy chief minister applauded Yuvraj as ‘Man of the Tournament’, saying that the star had led the team from the front and played a crucial role during difficult situations. Yuvraj’s contributions on batting, bowling and fielding collectively played an important role in India’s victory, he added.
Both Yuvraj and Harbhajan were instrumental in helping the team pick up the World Cup after 28 years, the deputy chief minister said, applauding Harbhajan Singh for restricting the run rate and claiming important wickets of the rival teams.
The Punjab government, he said, would soon organise a grand ceremony in the state to honour the players.
