The Punjab government has decided to give reward of Rs one lakh to those who give information on sex- determination tests.
The announcement came at a meeting of three states, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, on pre conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques Act on Wednesday. The meeting was held at the UT Guest House.
Representing Punjab, principal secretary health Vini Mahajan Mahajan announced the award money for information on sex-tests stating that Haryana is already providing similar amount to such informers. She further stated that any official of the PNDT cell of the neighboring state can visit Punjab for checking ultrasound centres on a tip-off. However, if the neighboring state wishes to inform Punjab prior to any such raid, they shall get full support and follow-up action, said Mahajan.
Apart from Mahajan, Himachal principal secretary health Vineet Chaudhary and Haryana principal secretary health RR Jowel were also present at the meeting.
