Punjab approves Rs 43 cr for water, sewerage in four cities

The Punjab government has approved Rs 43 crore for the provision of 100% water supply and sewerage coverage in Dera Bassi, Lalru, Zirakpur and Banur in the current year. Disclosing this here on Thursday, chief parliamentary secretary, industries and commerce, NK Sharma categorically said there would be no dearth of funds for the overall development of these cities

Disclosing this here on Thursday, chief parliamentary secretary, industries and commerce, NK Sharma categorically said there would be no dearth of funds for the overall development of these cities as the state government was committed to providing quality infrastructure in all developing towns and cities of Punjab.

He revealed that Rs 10 crore, of which Rs 3 crore and Rs 7 crore would be spent on augmentation of water supply and laying of remaining sewerage line, respectively, had been provided for Dera Bassi town. Similarly, Rs 3 crore and Rs 7 crore were being released for water supply and sewerage facilities in Lalru.

He further said Rs 16 crore had been sanctioned for Zirakpur city for water supply as well as sewerage facilities, while Banur town would get Rs 6 crore and Rs 1 crore for provision of sewerage and drinking water supply, respectively.

He informed that the state government had also chalked out Rs 10,000-crore ambitious plan to provide world-class infrastructure in rural areas on urban pattern in the next four years.

He said under this project all development programmes of villages would be completed in one go and that too according to a master plan.

Sharma urged the people to take keen interest in execution of various development works by visiting as well as regularly monitoring them to ensure quality of these works.

He said to ensure uninterrupted power supply to rural areas separate feeders were being set up.
