Punjab Assembly passes eight bills, session adjourned sine die

The Punjab Assembly passed eight bills on Saturday by voice vote, including the salaries and allowances of deputy ministers (amendment) bill and special economic zones bill 2009.

The Punjab Assembly passed eight bills on Saturday by voice vote, including the salaries and allowances of deputy ministers (amendment) bill and special economic zones bill 2009.

The Speaker rushed through the bills in about 30 minutes by asking the concerned ministers to put them for voting.

The bills passed by the Assembly included East Punjab Ministers salaries (amendment) bill, the Indian Stamp (Punjab amendment) bill, the Punjab police (amendment) bill and the court fees (Punjab amendment) bill.

The other bills passed were the Punjab school teachers re-employment (repeal) bill and the industrial disputes (Punjab amendment) bill 2009.

Moving the Punjab police (amendment) bill, leader of the House Parkash Singh Badal said that there is need to amend the Punjab Police Act, 2007 to make officers from the other state cadres also eligible for appointment as Director General of state police.

After the Bills were passed without any debate the Speaker adjourned sine die the budget session.

The motion to adjourn the Assembly sine die was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tikshan Sood.
