Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma has decided to resign from the post of adviser to the chief minister that he has held since before being appointed as the party's state unit chief on January 15. Sharma told HT that he would be personally meeting CM Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday to submit his resignation.
There were voices within the state BJP unit that holding the said post in the chief minister's office by the Punjab BJP chief was not in the interest of the party. "I had already extended my resignation to the chief minister when he was in Delhi for the gurdwara elections, but he asked me to meet him first," Sharma said, adding that it was "obvious" that he had to resign.
Senior BJP leader Balramji Dass Tandon said the resignation would help "maintain decorum". "I have a knowledge that he (Sharma) had extended his resignation and that it would materialise at the chief minister's end now," Tandon added.
