Day after Prime Minister’s taking up the drugs issue in his monthly radio address to the nation, Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma on Monday said his unit would start an awareness campaign against the menace in the state.
The issue was related to not only law and order but also national security, he said. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “recognising Punjab’s plight” in the “Mann Ki Baat” broadcast on Sunday. “The state BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) unit will join the Centre in eradicating the drug menace,” said Sharma.
“The PM has said rightly that it’s not just a menace but narco-terrorism. “It is our duty to stand up against something that is destroying our youth and forcing their families into a life that is like hell,” Sharma further said. He agreed with the Prime Minister that the problem was more significant in a border states such as Punjab, as the country’s enemies were pushing in drugs.
“I agree with the PM that there can be no bigger sin than being in the drug trade. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, our party will organise a statewide awareness campaign to make Punjab drug-free,” said the state BJP president.
