The Punjab cabinet on Tuesday gave approval to establish and incorporate a private university named Chandigarh University to be run and managed by Chandigarh Educational Trust at Gharuan in SAS Nagar (Mohali) district.
Stating this, an official spokesman said a decision to this effect was taken in a cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal here. This university would be self-financed and not be entitled to receive any grant or other financial assistance from the state government.
The objective of the university, he said, would be to provide for instruction, teaching, education, research and training at all levels in all disciplines of education, including professional, medical, technical, higher, general education as well as other streams and subjects as per the needs of industry and society in general.
The university would do so through all modes of education as may emerge or become relevant in future, besides promoting studies to provide for research in Punjabi language and literature and to undertake means for the development of Punjabi language, literature and culture, he added.
